I, Sophie, love a lot of things! Animal drawings, children’s literature, hip hop music, Asian American activism, diverse smells, Korean food, Turkish food, Persian food, any food! Women’s literature, early childhood education, J. Crew, HOUSES and architectural blogs, apartment therapy, mountain air, personal anecdotes, life histories, oral histories, curtains, dogs that can run pretty fast, talkative kitties, my 201 roommates, bible story illustrations, Big Churches, and House Churches!
I spent four miraculous years at UCLA from 2006-2010. Over these four years, I ran the race with brothers and sisters from the campus house church network Passion Church, Ezekiel House of Prayer in Westwood, Expression 58 kingdom classes with Jennifer Toledo, and the West LA young adult house church The Source. I was able to live my dream of serving Jesus with a spiritual family who demonstrated Christ’s love in powerful ways that strengthened the faith of both believers and not-yet believers, in dorm rooms, on Bruin Walk, at fraternity houses, at restaurants, among the poor, and in our apartments. Everywhere we went, we had so much fun! During this journey, I went through trying times with my family’s immigration status and financial challenges. God answered our prayers and we miraculously obtained green cards despite many obstacles and unlikelihoods, just a few days before my 21st birthday (afterward, I would have to start the process all over again and faced deportation). God always keeps his promises (though his timing can be pretty surprising)!
I am holding on to a word that I will accomplish more at the feet of Jesus just loving him as Mary did, that I will be known as a woman of many answered prayers. I’m holding on to a word!
Thank you for believing.
